Primum Familiae Vini
Baron Philippe de Rothschild
Wine as a work of art
Acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, Château Mouton Rothschild was directed from 1922 by his grandson Baron Philippe, who took it to the pinnacle. His daughter, Baroness Philippine, in turn modernised, expanded and tirelessly promoted the family company and estates, including Château d’Armailhac, Château Clerc Milon and Domaine de Baronarques.
Today her children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, are committed, with the same enthusiasm and determination, to perpetuating Baron Philippe’s dictum: “Vivre la vigne” (Live for the vine), which means getting involved, serving the vineyard with skill and craft, and honouring it with art.
